Legacy of Wellness

Oftentimes, in the social media era, we hear about how in motherhood one should “find themselves again” and to not “let themselves go.” All relevant concepts aimed at keeping mothers thinking about themselves and taking care of themselves, just as well as they take care of others.

I, on the other hand, constantly think about my daughter and how she has pushed me, inspired me, and ultimately raised me to my highest self.

Prior to having my daughter, I struggled greatly with depression. I didn’t correctly identify my depression until I was well into graduate school, and even then, I presented in a way that didn’t quite translate exactly to the textbook “definition.” During graduate school, I began the real work of not only exercising my faith for healing but also implementing practical tools to overcome my depression. Then the 2020 pandemic came along, rocked my world, and stifled some of the progress I had begun.

I was eventually able to get back on track. Going to therapy, identifying a plan, and working through the hard things. Then in 2022, I found out I was expecting my baby girl.

While pregnancy was challenging, I found a sense of peace during that time. Looking back, that peace was attributed to God, who gives peace which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7), and to the work I was putting in. I was changing my thinking, the people I surrounded myself with, and finally beginning to truly live life!

Over the past few years, I’ve birthed Legacy of Wellness LLC. With all that I’ve experienced, the questions I receive from those closest to me about mental health, and all the inspiration that God has given me, this blog will be a place for me to give back.
